A new art “team”… well, just one artist who took the script and handed back what you’re currently reading.

If you’ve been following the story–and we hope you’ve been enjoying these weekly diversions–then you’re probably surprised that the entire art direction has suddenly changed.  Just to save you from further shock, you should expect the same thing to happen in the third, concluding part of our story.

So, why the change?

This digital comic project has always been conceived as a celebration of what we believe to be a seminal comic book title.  We’re biased, of course, but we think this assessment holds water.

Because we started out as, and essentially are, a neighborhood publication we’ve always tried to use our pages to celebrate diversity.  The diversity of our readers, our creators, the people who thankfully carry out books in their stores.

So when it came time to pick an art team for this project we were faced with a dilemma.  Given the number and breadth of interpretations of Misteria over the years, how could we chose the one person or team who would be representative of all the years of commitment and sweat so many have put in?

The very act of choosing one art direction would seem to be an elevation of it over all the other directions this title has explored, and neither myself nor Drew were having that.  So we chose three directions.

Giving all due respect to the particular artists, none of these should be taken as our vote for how Misteria should be drawn.  And, certainly, those people we’ve worked with in the past who didn’t get to draw any of these pages shouldn’t assume we’re disparaging their work.  Certainly not.

So, our solution, given that this project is a break from how we’ve tended to approach publishing our comics, was to invite new art teams to help propel Misteria forward.

We’re looking to the future, and though the way might be obscured by fog–ha!–we know some of the shadows we see therein might just belong to the good guys.  Or girls, as the case may be.
